Do you ever wonder if God is listening when you pray? Have you ever had a prayer answered almost as soon as you ask it? Have you ever felt the prayers of others on your behalf? Well...we can say yes to each of these questions after the past 2 weeks.
The story starts with an ATV. We need to send 2 to Haiti to be able to get around on the large compound we will be living on. If you think you know nothing about ATVs well, we know less than that. We really didn't know where to start. We were frustrated after finding a lot of scams on the internet, people who wanted you to send the money first with a promise to ship the vehicle to us "at no cost". Sure! After a particularly frustrating morning, Grant was speaking with one of our new friends at the Mission of Hope office in the US and he shared his frustration with all that was left to do. She said she would pray and immediately sent out a quick email to all the MOH staff asking them to pray for our family as we were working to get everything done on a limited timeline and feeling the stress. That same afternoon, after delivering a load of boxes to the warehouse in Guelph, we decided to drive home on a different route as someone said there was an ATV/Snowmobile dealership along the road we would take. We got to the point where we knew we must have missed the dealership and would just head home when we passed
a house with an ATV on the front lawn with a "for sale" sign on it. Sandy didn't want to stop but Grant just wanted to "check it out". A young teenage boy came out and talked with Grant for a few minutes then his father arrived home. Grant agreed to buy the ATV and asked if it could be delivered to the warehouse in Guelph. No problem. While checking on the details, Grant explained to the father and son why we needed the ATV. The father was so moved, he took $200 off the agreed upon price. The next day the father and son arrived at the FTC warehouse in Guelph with the ATV in their pickup truck. After showing us how to work the vehicle and giving us some much needed tips, the father gave us his email and told us if we needed anything, parts, tires etc., to just let him know and he would find a way to get them to us. The son then told us how amazing it was that we came by when we did. After raining off and on all day the ATV had been left in the garage. When he noticed the sun had come out he put it out on the front lawn, went back in the house, sat on the couch and Grant knocked on the door. Amazing!
The garage sale was something Sandy did not want to do. Too much work, not enough time, you name it. But we had offers of help and donations from family and friends and had lots of stuff to get rid of. So, in the middle of packing up our house, purchasing and packing items to go on our container and getting 4 kids ready to go to camp...we had a garage sale. A cool, sunny morning brought out a lot of people, saw most of our things sold and raised over $1200 for our work in Haiti. You can say "I told you so" now Mom.
Well, the container is almost ready to go, the kids are enjoying a week at camp, the few leftovers from the garage sale will soon be cleared out of the garage and the house is slowing being emptied. What comes after the August 10th closing? VACATION. We will spend 3 weeks in beautiful Huntsville, Ontario at the Muskoka Bible Centre. We return labour day weekend and fly to Haiti September 8th. It is all coming together, amazingly orchestrated by an amazing God who deserves all the praise and glory for the way things are happening. He is using our incredible family and friends, coworkers, neighbours and even strangers. Thank you all and praise God.
